Heart Health Supplements For Aging Women

appleIt is estimated that 200,000 women die each year as the result of a heart attack. Fortunately, lifestyle changes can greatly cut a woman’s chance of having a heart attack. Not only can eating healthy foods and staying active cut a woman’s heart attack risk, but there are many heart health supplements that can reduce heart attack risk also. Below is a list of heart health supplements that a woman can try:

Fish Oil

Fish oil has a very high concentration of omega 3 fatty acids. Studies have shown that people who get adequate amounts of omega 3 fatty acids are less likely to develop arrhythmias. Arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeats, can lead to sudden death. Omega 3 fatty acids can also reduce blood pressure. Additionally, they can prevent plaque from accumulating inside of the arteries.

Garlic is something that many people already have in their kitchen. However, garlic can also be taken in the form of a supplement. Allicin, which is a component of garlic, has been shown to help prevent high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Vitamin D

There have been a number of studies done to confirm that vitamin D deficiency is linked to many health problems, including heart disease. In fact, some studies suggest that people who do not get enough vitamin D are twice as likely to have a stroke or heart attack.

COQ 10

Doctors often recommend that people who take Statins take a COQ 10 supplement. Statins can decrease the amount of COQ10 in the body. COQ10 has been shown to help lower blood pressure. In fact, one study showed that COQ10 can help lower blood pressure by as much as 17 points. This is comparable to many blood pressure medications.

Green Tea Extract

Green tea extract is often used by women who want to lose weight. However, this supplement can also help improve heart health. It helps lower blood pressure. Furthermore, people can protect their heart by losing weight. Many studies have confirmed that obese people are at a higher risk for having a heart attack,

Red Yeast Extract

Many people use red yeast extract in lieu of Statin drugs. Red yeast extract has ingredients that work in a similar way to Statins. Red yeast extract helps eliminate some of the bad cholesterol from the body while boosting levels of good cholesterol. When there is less bad cholesterol in the body, plaque is less likely to build up inside of the arteries.

Magnesium deficiencies are common. In fact, some sources suggest that around eight out of 10 people are suffering from a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium deficiency can increase the risk of high blood pressure. On the other hand, magnesium supplements can lower the risk of heart disease. Furthermore, magnesium can help protect against type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes raises the risk of heart disease.
